I don't think so. The only bus service I know of in Temple is the HOP (Central Texas HOP) but it mostly goes between Temple and the cities that are near Fort Hood (Killeen, Harker Heights, etc.). There are shuttle services that can take you to Austin Bergstrom but they wouldn't be as cheap as a bus.

There is no bus service to or from Temple, other than the Fort Hood shuttle.

Amtrak does pass through Temple daily (maybe except Sundays) and does travel beyond Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio, including Austin. Fairly cheap fares. In Austin, you'll need to use some public transport to get to the airport.

$9.50

Departs: 4:43 PM
Tue Feb 08 2011
Temple, TX (
TPL)

Arrives: 6:30 PM
Tue Feb 08 2011
Austin, TX (
AUS)

Be aware, Amtrak is not the principal use of railways and will defer to freight at any passing. This will delay your arrival at your destination. My trip from Temple to Fort Worth was delayed about two hours for that reason. And your Temple departure may be delayed as well.

Austin Amtrak arrives at 250 North Lamar. You can take the bus to the airport - Austin Bergstrom Int Airport - ABIA. Requires one bus change.

You might post in the Austin forum for suggested options.

According to the Greyhound website there is bus service from Temple to Austin. A ticket costs $20. https://www.greyhound.com/farefinder...?timedout=true

Thats the cheapest way Greyhound from Temple to Austin. Then take the Southbound 350 Cap Metro bus at the Greyhound station to the airport. It takes a detour to the Community college on riverside before going to the airport but you dont change buses.

The Amtrak 'Texas Eagle' has daily northbound and southbound service including Sundays -- it runs 7 days a week. In a recent conversation with an Amtrak station weekend volunteer, he said that the trains have become much more reliable and are on-time at a much higher frequency than the past. I won't get into the politics involved, but he said that passenger trains are now given a higher priority to track rights than the previous administration allowed.
