Greetings Fellow Texans!

Just one of my semi-regular Sunday afternoon polls that may be important to some and a ridiculous waste of time for others!

This one is a bit early in a sense, as "Tornado Season" really doesn't start in earnest until March, but still, it is not so far away as to be on the back-burner either.

Texas leads the states in the actual number of tornadoes each year, but in terms of an overall per-square mile frequency occurance, we really don't rank super high due to our large size. Truly large, strong to violent tornadoes are fairly rare in the trans-pecos and far south and southeast Texas areas. But northwest and north-central Texas are well within the "heart" of Tornado Alley.

Anyway, question is, how many of you have tornado/storm cellars (or shelters) either in your backyard or built into your homes (the indoor "safe rooms")?

And please share any good stories you might have about actually being in one. Oh man, when I was a kid I remember a few times -- in some rural areas and towns, being taken down into dark, dank, caverns, full of cob-webs and other things that crawled and slithered and scared the crap out of me.

Go for it, Texicans!

We have a storm shelter. Put it in 3 years after the F5 came to town. After seeing what that did, will NEVER trust an above-ground "safe room" - does you no good whatsoever when there's nothing, and I mean NOTHING, left above ground at all.

Only problem is, the creek came WAY above the 100 year flood plain a couple of years ago and flooded it, but we've sorted out what caused that (badly designed "professional" water gate that worked wonderfully to make a dam) and fixed it.

I don't have one but seriously wish I did. Hutto isn't far enough away from Jarrell to make me feel comfortable!
