Proposal Would Require You to Buy Insurance--On Your Dog!

Quote:
State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon (D-San Antonio) has introduced a bill that would require any Texan who owns a male dog which weighs 20 pounds or more and is not neutered to have an insurance policy covering injuries or damage caused by that dog when it is off the leash or out of the dog's yard, 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports.

"Unrestrained un-neutered male dogs over 20 pounds have a higher tendency toward aggression," McClendon said.

That is simply ridiculous! I highly doubt that bill will ever pass.

I am so tired of Texas being turned into something it's not an never has been. We used to be a society of adults that accepted consequences, that didn't run to litigate, that didn't expect the government to assure that our life was all daffodils and unicorns.

What the heck has HAPPENED to us!

Not to mention, of course, that as reported in this article, the bill doesn't appear to have been very well thought out from the get go.

I blame the influx of creatures from the left coast.. not sure how it is in the rest of Texas, but we're being invaded here in SA. Wonder if this brilliant politician was one of them?

She's apparently a native Houstonian:

Project Vote Smart - Representative Ruth Jones McClendon - Biography

Birth Date: 10/05/1943
Birthplace: Houston, TX

I guess even the natives have their share of idiots who come up with fool ideas like this one.

Downright embarrassing. I wish she WERE from the left coast!!!

Thousands of bills get proposed every year. This will never in a million light years get to the floor of either chamber.

It's inane that it was proposed in the first place and even more so by one of our own.

Hopefully in this case it has to do to that generation thing we've talked about before, otherwise the question THL asked (What the heck has HAPPENED to us!) remains in place! As you said Cathy, it is downright embarrassing!

Best way to handle this is to donate to her opponent. She's an ... ahem ... she's out of bounds.

A proposal when thousands of actual biils never see the light of day. Just now is this bioll goig to be enforced.locals animal control can't evenh enforce tags or leash laws as it is. No one can seriously say that any moeny witht eh coming budget cuts is goig to be spent o such non-sense at state level.LOL.
