I am not a fan of West Texas, so I may be biased, but I do like Midland for the fact that my gas will last me two whole weeks! Other than that one thing, I am not too happy with this place. Good luck!

Having grown up in El paso, there was never any issues with anyone fitting in unless they were rude, mean, bigoted, etc regardless of ethnic or racial background.

Why don't you visit to get the feel of these cities? They are vastly different and you'd get the feel for whether or not you feel comfortable.

I like it here in San Angelo. Not too big and not too small.

Im not white, I'm Black/Asian and I was born and raised in El Paso. If it's discrimination you're worried about, you don't have to worry at all in El Paso. Hispanics are definitely some of the most friendly people on the planet. I admit, El paso isn't that diverse except for probably the West and Northeast parts of town, but there is Ft Bliss, soon to be the largest Army post in the military, and that brings some diversity. Other than that, El Paso is a pretty urban city that still has that small town feeling to it, even though traffic sometimes can be bad.

I considered all of those cities plus San Angelo when I moved back to West Texas from Ohio. I chose Abilene because of its proximity to the metroplex, Austin, and the more populous cities in the state. It is also within 90 minutes to three hours of the other west texas metros with the exception of El Paso and Amarillo. Our major decision was based on the fact that Abilene is large enough to have everything we want in a city, yet the traffic is not horrible. San Angelo was our second choice. We have been pleased with choosing Abilene. I love being able to get to the edge of the metroplex in 2 hours and to Ausin in about 3 1/2 hours without having to live in all of that congestion.

In my opinion El Paso would be the best -- or Las Cruces might be even better. Those other cities don't have a mountain right in them, El Paso's scenery is nicer.

It's okay to be white in El Paso but there is a lot of discrimination against English speakers in the the workplace - it depends on what line of work you do. Unless you have Mexican native Spanish fluency, it can be hard to find a job in some fields. If you are a professional, higher up in management for example, language might not be a problem.
