Brenham is growing...slowly, but surely. Some of the newer businesses that have opened in the past few years are Chili's, Starbucks, Lowe's, Home Depot. I can't say much other than that. They still seem to have that "small town feel", but are slowly growing. I'm not sure about the hotel you stayed at, but I'm sure they've built several new hotels since 86/87.

Still a beautiful little town, but yes, growing a bit. My Aunt and Uncle just moved there last year from Houston to retire.

When I was there the County Judge owned both motels in town. There was a newer one out on the by pass next to the truck stop, and an older but nice one more down town. The one down town had a great bar at it, kind of more of a family gathering place always packed and lively everone was always freindly and having a lot of fun, alot even brought they're kids in with. Just good country people that you don't find as often anymore.

I can give you all the info.you need if you ask specifics. Have been in Brenham since 94'. The short version is the traffic at 290/36 is getting bad.Crime is rising esp.theft and drug related offences as well as weapon usage. 290 is undergoing a major change and Bluebell is still the best ice cream around.

All in all Brenham/Washington Co.is still a great place to live. If you want details post here or PM me.

My inlaws live there and I have been quite impressed with the town! It is growing, yet there are still neat shops and restaurants in the downtown area. There are wineries around as well as a number of chain stores and restaurants. I always thought of Brenham simply as "Blue Bell", but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a lot more than just ice cream! (And oh, the two Mexican pottery/decor places on 290 just west of town have great prices!)
