Hello all!
Visiting AMA & Angelo this month for relocation to either area and will need your 'best of' for BBQ and Mexican food. Some of my favorite food in South Tx is from some of the shabbiest of places so please don't pass up your favorite because its basic. Any places for breakfast tacos? Yummy!

What about safe areas for hotels? I'm looking around the Med Center - Coulter Drive and also around I40W in AMA. (I have a hotel picked for Angelo).

I Will generally need to check the areas out and look for apartment rentals. Any ideas for either? It sounds like the south/south west areas of both towns are the best. I don't want to be up against major road ways unless there are parks close. I like to clock the miles walking my dog in green space.

I can't wait to see those W Tx skies and wind turbines, and experience the Tx culture I've been long missing! : )

Thanks!
E

Hey, it's the little dives and holes in the wall that often have the best food in the world! My money says that there are good Tex-Mex/Mex/BBQ places in both!

Angelo had a great steakhouse called Twin Mountain....and we used to get their plate of "scraps", which consisted of beef tenderloin....MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. I don't know whether or not they are still there, though.

That place was GREAT!!! Did you ever go to the Western Skies Steakhouse on Chadbourne? Mmmm...

The BEST BBQ in the entire world is in Abilene: Harold's Pit BBQ on Walnut Street. OMG! I am going there for lunch on Thursday and I can't wait!! It is a little building, and the line is out the door and into the street, and it is SO worth it!!

I haven't been in the San Angelo area long, but for Mexican food, I like Franco's Mexican Cafe best followed by Armenta's Cafe. For sandwiches, I like Chef Jason's Deli & Pastries - San Angelo, TX, not to be confused with Jason's Deli, which I do like, but is not in San Angelo. The Wild Yhetti, is a spectacular sandwich. The only other place in my experience that makes sandwiches as good is a place in Tacoma WA called Magical Sandwich Makers. Both places, I swear must use magic to make such great sandwiches.

Dallas / Fort Worth Restaurants | Urbanspoon Is a great place to get recommendations as to where to eat when you travel. The link shows DFW, but really, it is all over the country as well as Australia, Canada and the UK!

Haven't been to Amarillo, so can't speak to their food.

No, have never been to Western Skies, but I'll put it on the list next time I'm in town!

Enjoy your BBQ!!
