Glad they didn't put it in....the environmental degradation would have been horrific.
but wasn't it going to also be called 35??? I must be mixing up things in my mind. Anyway I know it is not like ETex said, I know for sure it was not I69

Texas' first stretch of Interstate 69 just opened west of Corpus Christi. It's along U.S. 77 between I-37 and Robstown. The plan is to eventually have four components of I-69 in Texas, with the main route going from Laredo through Victoria, and then on to Houston, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and Joaquin before entering Louisiana. There will be three branches connecting to it (I-69C from George West to McAllen, I-69E from Victoria to Brownsville, and an unnamed route from near Carthage to Texarkana [could be I-69N]). A fifth component is said to eventually run along State Highway 44 from Corpus Christi to Freer, but that may be the last thing to happen.

By the way, regarding its eventual interchange with U.S. 69 in Lufkin, it is not known yet if U.S. 69 will be renumbered to something else, since it is usually not proper for an interstate and U.S. highway to have the same number in the same state. We'll find that one out soon enough.

Why all the fuss? Why not talk about the widening of I-35E or I-35W or I-30 or I-635, etc.? This is what TxDot does because of growth and the constant need to improve and widen roadways; nothing new here.
Because the completion of I-69 will be another direct route connecting Mexico and Canada. It'll connect cities like Houston with Memphis, Indianapolis, and Detroit. It's long overdue. Interstate 45 is another. It's about time that thing gets extended to Kansas City already.

The route is there now, just under several different names. The renaming of all into I-69, plus upgrades and widening of state and US highways into the latest interstate designs will be a good thing. But this is a FAR cry from what was proposed several years ago with rail corridors along a new route. And right now, there isn't even funding to do this.

Indianapolis, IN - Google Maps

That looks like I-69 to me. Show me any segment of I-49 north of Shreveport.

It's still further along than this I-49 project.

Is there even a set route? I-49 will follow Hwy 71 from Shreveport to Kansas City and Hwy 90 from Lafayette to New Orleans. The plan to head to Texarkana is silly since I-49 will, and it will go through a higher population. Wiki seems to belive it will turn into Louisiana south of Shreveport and end as I-20, continue up to SE Arkansas with numerous options to Memphis. I-49 will serve the same purpose from Texarkana to Shreveport that I-69 would from Longview/Marshall to Texarkana, and for millions less.

Not really ignoring them. But municipalities, contractors, business owners, and other individuals and entities forming a special interest website and posting a pep rally something they have no control over doesn't really mean a lot. TxDot is the entity that will get it built, eventually. So, why are you giving those sites so much credibility? This group originally was formed to support the TTC, which was snubbed by the public big time.
