But for those who think they can't stop, because no one really wants to smoke despite some saying they do, I have the following to say:

You may want to attempt to explain it your family now. It might make a needless death, and their coming belief that you loved one chemical more than them. It is easier to accept once you're gone. Is this simply more scare tactics or asking you to examine reality? Each and every day smoking claims 13,698 lives(source AMA) on earth. Which cigarette in which pack will contain the irritant that gives birth to that first cancerous cell, to the first diseased cell, or that pulls the death's trigger in producing a massive stroke or heart attack?

How should your family describe your cause of death?
Was it suicide, murder, an accident or stupidity?
How about:
Death by Smoking

Quiteoften I wonder if I had just one wish be granted, rather then wishing I could hit the lottery, I instead wish the word smoking as well as the act of smoking would just vanish from our culture completely. How can anyone actually want to smell like that?

Better stand down wind...I'm about to light up another one.

I quit smoking and for the life of me..I don't know why I ever started smoking. Maybe it was the thought of missing out on something. The added afflictions were not worth what I was missing out on. I enjoy not smoking more than I ever did smoking.

I never smoked. However, I remember being sent to the store to buy smokes for my parents--25 cents a pack as I remember. The little store was just two blocks from our house, and I was never given any hassle for buying them.

Mom, Dad, and my two older sisters all were heavy smokers. My younger brother and I never tried a cigarette. We both remember gagging in our small house. We used to open a window in our bedroom and sleep with our heads sticking as far out of the window as possible. (That probably actually drew the smoke into our room.) Dad died of lung cancer. Mom and my oldest sister died of emphysema (did I spell that right?) My younger sister had breast cancer and quit smoking and is still alive.

I don't need warning. It's your problem, not mine. I'll stand where I want thanks to laws protecting us clean intelligent folks from that disgusting dirty filthy habit. Shame on those who love you for not persuading you in the right direction.

I have been quit for 5 Years, 3 Months, 3 Weeks, 3 Days, 2 hours, 45 minutes and 46 seconds (1,940 days). I have saved $7,760.45 by not smoking 38,802 cigarettes. I have saved 4 Months, 2 Weeks, 17 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 12/26/2005 8:17 PM

Keep in mind, I set this when the cost was around $3 a pack, so my total 5 year savings is likely well over $10,000

My father lost his dad when he was 12 years old to Emphesema from smoking.

My mother lost an aunt and an uncle to Emphesema.

My parents never smoked and I am ridiculously allergic to tobacco. Besides the obviously stuffy nose, watery eyes, swollen face, I learned once when I got hives all over from one puff in college. Never again.

My grandfather was a wonderful man. Everyone in our family that knew him tell me just what an honest, kind, loving man he was. He was the glue for some of the extended family. I always wished I had a chance to meet him.

I admire those that have been able to quite successfully. I know it's incredibly easy to fall back and can respect that hard word.

I quit smoking 20 years ago. I had smoked about a pack a day for 25 years. It was very hard to quit. The only way I could do it was to challenge myself concerning how strong my willpower was and whether the pull of nicotine was stronger. After about four months, the pull started to lessen in intensity. I really did enjoy smoking, but I don't miss it at all now, even when I have a drink.

I'll smoke a pack or two of KOOLs every few months, usually during the stressful times. BlacknMilds on occasion.
