I'm wondering how long the credit monitoring will last. I would also ask for a credit freeze despite the inconveniences it may cause.

One day somebody needs to really rethink this credit/personal data industry model. It's too easy to ruin somone just by collecting a few digits. There are too many ways to exploit the system.

I also could not get that website to work when I tried to enroll my wife a while ago. I too assume it is overloaded right now. It will probably work better in a few days.

I hope you are right, she too was with TRX.

Probably a stupid question, but how do you find out if you were one of the people affected?

people effected got a letter from the state comptroller's office saying that personal info was part of what was parked on that server and open to anyone who found it to have a look--
It did not come out and say that someone had stolen your SSN or other personal info

as someone said --- it is akin to leaving your purse in your car =- unlocked--and parked at the airport while you go on vacation
if everyone thinks the car is locked and does not notice the purse or try to get inside then the purse is still there when you come back

The man who was in charge of that program turned in his resignation--his signature was on the letters that went out
the comptroller tried to blame the three depts who sent the info saying it was not encrypted when it was sent
the departments all swear it was transferred with safeguards

from the little I know about the different depts of the state govt they all have systems that are that much different from the other that I bet the info had to be tranformed in some way to get one to work with the other two depts and the comptroller's system
that means the safeguards would be taken down to do the meld--
they just did not get encrypted when they were done and posted--

stupid and likely happening somewhere right now in some other computer system
