We were in Maine and the topic of removing stumps came up. The old timers up there suggested using a crow bar to make a hole at the base of a stump, and then filling it with corn. They said that the feral pigs would dig out the stumps for us, no problem. Any more handy tips floating around??

Yeah, pay someone to do it. Removing a stump is backbreaking work unless you have the right tools.

Chain that bad boy up and hook the chain to the hitch on your truck. Put truck in 4 lo and drive forward until stump is up rooted. repeat if nescessary.

Using the crowbar and the ready supply of porcine labor sounds the easiest and cheapest of any ideas I've heard so far.
Although not the quickest, depends on how soon you want it done.

My grand dad used to gripe that he couldn't buy dynamite over-the-counter anymore... I mean, that is the easiest way I can think of to remove a stump......

Another way that takes a lot longer, and is a lot less fun is to take a ship auger (long drill bit) and bore it full of holes from the top. I mean, Swiss cheese it....

Soak it thoroughly as often as you remember. The combination of micro organisms and freeze/thaw cycles will dissolve it in about a year.....

Lol! Good idea! Wild pigs may work out here on my farm to clean up around the roots of a tree stump but I doubt my next door neighbors at Albuquerque would appreciate me bringing in a trailer-load of pigs and turning them loose in the neighborhood. Out here on the farm, wild hogs would be welcomed. After the stump was up, we could then put a "pig in the ground" and have a BBQ!

But seriously, Albuquerque is where I have two large mimosa stumps to remove right now. I'll probably just rent a stump grinder or hire someone with one. The roots will just have to stay.
