I will likely be moving my family to Amarillo in a couple months and I'm looking for a NICE apartment complex. I've looked at several websites so far and a lot of them seem very small and/or have horrible ratings saying the place is falling apart, management is horrible, etc. I will be visiting Amarillo next weekend, so I'm trying to compile a list of apts to go check out. So far, I have Town Parc Apts. I've read that the west side of town is safer, so I'm trying to limit my search to that area. I'm looking for a 2-3 bedroom, $700-$900/mo. Thank you for any recommendations!

Amanda, sorry no one has responded on this post. I just joined this forum.
Amarillo has plenty of nice apartment complexes. They are mostly on the western side of the city; and they are mostly pretty affordable. For a city it's size, the crime is pretty low. Even the worst parts of the city don't really feel unsafe. I'd give you a specific list, but I haven't lived in Amarillo for the last year or so and their names escape me. But there are plenty along Bell Street, where I used to live, by the high school.

Thank you. We ended up picking a complex on Bell St. It's called Stonegate. We really wanted another apt, but there weren't many options as far as availability.

Default Just moved to Amarillo

Hello all,
Literally JUST arrived in town (currently in a hotel). lol. Can anyone tell me what areas to avoid? I know the sw is the growing area. Saw a nice apt complex near tradewind airport (silver oak). Area seems nice and new...like its growing. Any info is helpful. Pretty excited to be here from Michigan.

Default Areas to avoid

I think the worst parts of Amarillo in general are the northeast parts. But if you drive through the neighborhoods, you'll be able to tell pretty easily. There are plenty of new complexes and a decent amount of houses for rent, also. I think the southwest area is nice, it's developing and you still have those great prairie views with spectacular sunsets.

Default Apartments

Amanda...Stonegate was a good choice.

Areas to avoid...far north, northeast and east, and of course, right in the downtown area. Otherwise, all of the west, southwest, south, and northwest sides are great. There are some nice areas in southeast Amarillo as well.

Overall, Amarillo is a relatively safe city.
