So I am looking to relocate to the Dallas area. Yes I have been to Dallas before. I love Texas! I have had my eyes on Dallas for a few years! I just need to move before I go crazy in Boston and I am finally get up the courage to move. Now my questions are:

1. What is job market like? I currently have worked in the medical field for the last 10 years.

2. Is it difficult to get on at area hospitals?

3. What is the average cost of living? Boston cost of living is through the roof!

4. Average Cost of schooling?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Job market is better than average, but we are no t immune to the recession. Cost of living is slightly below average in some aspects. Housing here is much much cheaper than Boston. School just depends, we have everything from community college, to large Universities.

Stay in Boston and weather the recession for the next couple of years at least. I hear Texas, and Goobener Perry, have been putting ads on television around the country, including MA, spinning yarns that Texas is immune to the economic downturn, Texas has created XXX number of jobs (mostly vapor claims), the streets are lined with gold, blah, blah, blah. Texas is not immune to the economic downturn and it just took a little longer for it to reach here.

As for jobs in the medical field there are jobs advertised around the DFW area. The question is are they adequate compared to what you have now? What are the working conditions like? Do you have the money to pick up and leave and take a chance Texas is like all of the hype being pushed out there?

The talk from colleges, universities, etc., is that the medical field is always in demand. That might be true but have you considered why? More people are forgoing medical procedures (even here) that they can no longer afford. Hospitals are feeling this cut in revenue just like any other business. As the hospital wards stay empty the hospitals are cutting back, increasing patient workload on staff, etc., etc. That all equals early burn-out for those people and increasing rotation rates.
