Know nothing more about your requirements, might I suggest beginning by looking at CRANE, TEXAS!

Over a hundred degrees 20 days in a row... new record. And the overnight low isn't even yet into the 80's. I'm looking forward to that, long about August.

The best place in TX is where you can find a job first.

Really, among the major metros there's not a huge difference.

I don't know anything about the summers in CT, but I can tell you they're terrible here. Of course, the winters are wonderful, can be cold (not by CT standards though) and sometimes, it even snows. I can honestly say that from November to March, it isn't bad weather wise although there will be some days within those months that are way too warm for me.

Taxes? Yes, we have them and they are high on property albeit there is no state income tax. Texas ranks #1 in the nation for the highest amount of homeowner's insurance, but housing is pretty inexpensive here. Electricity costs are relatively high but basically, if you can stand heat (and often very uncomfortable humidity) for months on end, like parts of April through October, severe weather (wicked thunderstorms with the potential of damaging winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes) especially in the Spring, you'll do fine here. It's not a bad place to "hang one's hat."

I live in central Texas about 65 miles south of Fort Worth. I would suggest the Hill Country area (you can find it on a map ... google Hill Country Texas) because, to me, it's the prettiest area of the state. East Texas is okay, the Piney Woods area. I don't care for the scenery in west Texas, but many love it out there. Also, I don't care for the coastal areas because they're way too humid and the chance of hurricanes is something I choose not to deal with. The chance of tornadoes is enough for me. It's a big state to cover to find your perfect spot. Good luck and do keep us posted.

Crane, Texas ... hot, dry, and not pretty ...

Visit one of the smaller cities in Texas, less than 150,000, and ask people if they're glad they don't live in Houston or Dallas. See what they say.

Not everyone wants to live in an area where the weather in January is nearly the same as it is in June...
