Well that's all we needed to know, you can just move in with your cousins. Why would you mention your race? I have never mentioned my race on the internet for any reasons, you think you will find an area that is more prevalent for your race? What gives? I don't care if you move in my neighborhood or maybe you don't want to live around my kind is that it? Hey I'm looking for a neighborhood to live in I'm from the moon, does that matter?

Usually I would agree that mentioning race doesn't matter. But, I think the OP was trying to get ahead of the people who *love* to warn others about the golden triangle's prejudices (specifically Vidor). She did note "if it matters" ...
You're the only one being racist here, by the way. Chill out.

Default Relocating to Beaumont TX area

My family is relocating to the Beaumont area next month. I have read many negative posts about that part of Texas. Need truthful feedback on the quality of life there. Education is important - two kids (10 and 8).
Looking at living in Lumberton. Any insight on areas and schools?

I don't personally know much about the community but the demographics look pretty good, low crime, good property values, higher then normal income, etc..

Beaumont is the Deep South, so quite frankly, if you have reservations about that specific part of the country, BMT may not be the city for you. Personally, I don't find it to be that bad, but things like the humidity, the refineries, and the smaller town atmosphere tends to leave some less enthused about the place.

demographics look good for lumberton ..are you kidding me? ..the median salary there is due to supervisors from the plant and white flight, notice that if you are looking for a diverse place, lumberton is not it. As for the OPs question..i have lived here most of my life. When you have a refinery that will hire people without even a ged and those people have children you get a bunch of ignorant folks. Diversity is frowned upon here and if you even go slightly outside the norm then you are considered "wierd" ...just a heads up..i would reconsider moving here if i were you...most of the people with education leave ..i got sucked back here due to a death in the family.

Honestly the West End of Beaumont is probably the best part of the whole entire area. The schools around there are okay and the neighborhoods are real nice. Plus you are close to the mall and lots of restaurants. Downtown Beaumont is okay. They have Crockett Street which has a few nice clubs and bars, they also have plays that come to the Julie Rogers Theater. Once a year in Port Arthur there is the Mardi Gras (im sure its still fun, I use to go when i was younger) and the Fair that comes also. The beach is not that far and if you like fishing and good Cajun food the area is perfect for that.

I mean im form there, its not as bad as what people make it. SOME of the people are friendly you just have to find them. What is really overlooked sometimes is the FOOD. That area has some pretty good cajan food.

Good Luck.
