I'm a major college football fan so I would say keep the Cotton Bowl and demolish the Astrodome.

They are both historic in their own unique ways. A lot of historic games have been played at the Cotton Bowl and it is a very old stadium -- not many from the 30's can still hold nearly 100,000 people and are still operational. The first indoor stadium is a really big deal as well -- it started the revolution in stadiums. But since the Cotton Bowl still has games played in it and is at the Texas State Fair, I would keep it.

I don't really see a reason to implode the Astrodome as long as it is maintained. There isn't a mega church on that side of town is there?

Cities and Counties paying for pro-sports arenas is one of the biggest scams ever pulled over on the taxpayers. Thats very evident by the NFL lockout going on now.

the astrodome isn’t being maintained.
is already been condemned and unusable, it would cost the CoH tens of millions of $$ to get it to the point people could even go inside.
its worthless except for scrap.

I don’t know enough about the Cotton Bowl to make an education decision.

Love it or hate it, the dome is a not only a major part of Houston's history, but a major part of America's sports history as well. To write it off as "worthless scrap" because the city of Houston has neglected to maintain it is just wrong-wrong-wrong. There are many Houstonians who would be more than happy to fork over whatever tiny percentage of taxes it would cost to renovate the dome.

Most unique atmosphere in all of sports!
Obviously nobody has been to the Cotton Bowl lately. Since its remodel its a pretty fantastic stadium...maybe not in the same vein as Cowboys Stadium, but when FC Dallas played a double-header a couple of years ago it was a well done remodel.

It may not be as shiny and new as Cowboys Stadium. But it has far more history, tradition, and character as well. And the re-model really has done wonders for the place. The concourses might be a bit tight, but that's all part of the atmosphere.

Definitely needs to be preserved.

Probably the best advice for the Astrodome is to either implode it or make it into a museum of some sort. Perhaps they could make it into an air and space museum, they could hold some big shuttles from NASA in there. Face it, NASA is way too far from the center of Houston, this is a better place. All the exhibits would be on the field and most of the stands could be demolished and those areas turned into restaurants and other things. A small portion of the stands/seating area could be left so tourists could take some pictures of the museum down on the field.

They could also make a Texas sports museum out of it as well. I think that would be great, it could showcase all the football and baseball stars that came from Texas, since the Astrodome was both a baseball and a football stadium.

However, I don't think Houston likes to spend money on big "gubmint" projects like that, so the cheapest and lowest cost solution to the citizens of Houston would be to implode.

Now that would be a tourist attraction and I would make a trip out to Houston just to see that and film it.

what are you talking about? Houston has always been the leader in the biggest and best projects in the State, while Dallas tried to catch up. Austin is just getting into the catch up game, and San Antonio gave up trying 50 years ago.

Houston has the tallest buildings the biggest highways, biggest malls, biggest hospitals, biggest biomedical research centers, biggest public parks, biggest single city airport, biggest port.

Houston has always been on the forefront of the state's mega projects.
