I am looking for a house on the lake, preferrably around the North Texas area, within about an hour and a half drive from the Dallas Metroplex. I would also like to know of any really pretty East Texas lakes.

We have 10 acres for sale in Ferris, Texas. It is really close to Rockett, Texas near the gas station there if anyone is familiar with it. It is very reasonably priced. It is listed with Century 21 Karen Smith.

Rockett, as in the town with the infamous red water?

What's your budget for the lake house?
Lakes in North Texas:
Ray Hubbard
Lavon
Lewisville, AKA "Lake Dallas"
Grapevine
Tawakoni
Cedar Creek
Possum Kingdom
Eagle Mountain
Mountain Creek
Lake Worth

Rockett doesn't have red water. It is a small town outside Red Oak in Northern Ellis County.

My budget is around $275,000

Rockett USED to have red water back in the mid 90s. Glad to hear they have fixed it.

Cross the following lakes off your list:
White Rock
Lewisville
Grapevine
Ray Hubbard
Those will all be above your price range.

D Magazine : The 10 Best Lakes to Call Home

One caveat to this story. Lake Athens is beautiful, but the crooks who run the lake authority for the city will steal you blind to put money in their pockets and in the pockets of their friends. So avoid this one if you can.

I like Lake O the Pines, it is very natural looking. Little far from Dallas but not undoable, also convenient to Shreveport, Longview, and a little stretch to Tyler.

My uncle bought a place on Lake Fork near Quitman and loves it. Good bass fishing out there and a lot of tournaments.
