I'm watching the dead grass area surrounding the front yard creep into the middle of the yard. I'm watering but obeying the watering restrictions in town. It's sad to see it die. Eleven heat-related deaths in Dallas County is so much worse.

I stay inside as much as possible. Even at 5 a.m. it is like being in an oven out there.

Keep your pets inside, folks.

There are people without a/c. One person who lives in my community said his home was 104 inside the other day. He's still surviving, but I think it's getting to him. Yesterday before noon, it was 97 in the house. It's sad, but a fixed income doesn't allow all the "luxuries" in life. He's old too ... 65. I know that's not really old, but it's not young and he has health issues. He's tough, I guess.

I'm hoping the same will happen this year, but the drought may have to end before that is possible.
Well, over three weeks of over 90 last September is not fall to me. Yes, it was great to get a few breaks with the few days not stricken with 90 degree weather.

It's routinely 105+ degrees in India in the summer (+ humidity) and no one has a/c.
It's not an automatic death sentence. You just have to be smart about it.

Well fall doesn't begin til the end of September, so of course that whole month doesn't count. I was just saying that's the first month we can usually expect a break from the heat.

Ideally, for me, our summers would be short, and the highs would never go above 70 from mid-October until May.

As for your friend, does he atleast have a fan? I've seen the industrial/warehouse ones go for as low as $30, so he should be able to afford that.

We keep finding dead birds around our house. I think the heat and dryness are killing some of them.

Yes, September 22 and the announcement of Autumn anyway will sound good. Yes, the neighbor has a fan.

That's the hottest temp we ever reached in Dallas. If we get that hot it would be the 2nd time we reached 113.
