I love the fact Texas is not a Nanny State full of whiney liberals.
Buc-ee's
It is a huge state with a lot to see and do. Different landscapes.
The people. The hospitality.

I really like the diversity and the thunderstorms. People are nice to and, from my experience, they seem genuine about it.

Except for the liberal bastion in Austin. It is where all Texas liberals can feel at home.

I love 75 degree weather but honestly - not in January or the first week of February.

But then, Texas weather is NEVER "normal." We don't even know what that word means when it comes to weather!

...easier (than in many other states) to avoid negative consequences of policies spearheaded by liberals. No state income tax (as mentioned in another post).

Among the few negatives:

- Too far away from snow skiing (except for the El Paso area...not that far from Ski Apache in NM)

- Galveston doesn't have the water temperature or clarity found along the Gulf Coast of Florida
(Any improvement re either as one meanders along the coast toward Mexico?)

- AFAIK, nothing comparable to the Pinellas Trail (FL), nearby Gulf Blvd area thru the Barrier Islands, etc.

What I love about my native Texas:

1. The people (people back home are so much friendlier. These damn Arizona-California guys could learn a thing or 2 from Texans about being nice to others).

2. The plentiful lakes & beaches there (miss my Crystal Beach).

3. Great road trip scenery (all of it is great to see).

4. Most of the women love to take care of themselves (most were either track stars in school and/or cheerleaders).

5. The clubs/bars are always fun (great music & dancing; you'll always find a club that always has live bands playing).

6. You can get a nice tan just about year round too. LOL!

7. Football is always #1 favorite activity among Texans (either by watching it or playing it).

8. The Mexican food is always authentic & great!

9. No one will put you down if you love country music and/or Tex-Mex music.

I disagree.

Central (city of) Austin will find a liberal majority. As will (city of) Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. And there are more Liberals in each of these three cities than in Austin (so the "all Texas Liberals" are in Austin comment is not accurate and is a tiresome 40-45 year old stereotype.)

Suburban Austin (& suburban Dallas/Houston/San Antonio) will see far more economic conservatives (with mostly middle class and upper middle class families)... and with mostly Conservative and/or Libertarian voting patterns. Most of the Texans that I know (in all Metros) want very limited government, & that govt. should (for the most part) stay out of the Boardroom and out of the Bedroom. This is true in greater Austin & in most other areas in Texas.

No state income tax and a generally pro-business atmosphere. Pretty decent job markets as compared to the rest of the nation.
