As many of you have heard, the Aggies are a lock for the SEC. As such, the Aggies have publicly stated the desire to continue the annual grudge match with the Longhorns as an out-of-conference game (just like UT/OU in the Big 8 days, Miami/FSU, Clemson/SC, etc.). However, the Longhorns are like a girlfriend spurned and will not commit to this game going forward.

My question - Will the state of Texas, residents, lawmakers, Aggie fans, etc. put enough pressure on UT to continue the rivalry? Or will UT tuck tail and run for good?

They'll play. There will be too much pressure. Even though I'm a rabid Horn fan, they're acting stupid.

In three years this will all be forgotten, as there will be a few mega-conferences and all the others will disappear. Horns just need to go independent anyway. They're one of the few that can pull it off. The big 12 (or 10 or 5 or whatever it is now) gives them no benefit.

Where have you read that UT wouldn't want to continue this century-old tradition? I've been following this development on a daily basis at Austin-American Statesman's web site and nothing of this sort has been mentioned. In fact the opposite has often been raised - that issues like conference scheduling conflicts would prevent the annual rivalry from occurring. No way would Longhorn fans be spurned, I smell an Aggie troll here.

UT class of '92

I agree on the Aggie troll comment. It will be funny hearing the Aggies explain their song to their new SEC conference mates. I don't think UT has any behavior worth apologizing for. Quite the opposite, I think many of their competitors are just jealous of the success and momentum the school has.

Heck, it sounds as if the Aggies are so bent for moving to the SEC they should be thanking UT for giving them the excuse.

Now, if someone can provide a link showing that 'LOCK' for the Ags to the SEC, this thread will be validated.

As far as Texas and the aTm playing... so what? Maybe should be the first pre-season game. Just to get things 'started right'.

I am sure the one game that Texas and ESPN see has important if possible is The Red River Shootout with Oklahoma.Texas and A&M hasn't been much since the old southwest conference days. Now that they are non-conference A&M with it program are way down list of non-conference that can help in standing really. Now I am sure of the SEC Texas would love LSU and one of the Florida much more i their line up.

You are correct.

The aggys are acting more butthurt than usual with their recent bumbling around.
Too bad they didn't agree to the "Lone Star Network that UT proposed several years ago, or they wouldn't be running off like a bunch of sheep.
And nobody has said they couldn't form their own "A&M Aggie Network".

Their objections to the LHN are a total fraud.

All I know is the UT looks pretty silly with their unwillingness to commit to playing the Aggies going forward. The horns need the Aggies more than the Aggies need them the way things are going. The Longhorn SOS will be pitiful while the Aggies will be in the mighty SEC. And now that they can't get their first game picked up by a major carrier, they really need the Aggie game's national coverage.

Non-sense ;that is why the Aggies want it so much and Texas is weighing its options. Aggies haven't contended for a national championship in years or even the big 12 championship.Texas made the most money of any college program in the country last year;surpassing Notre Dame.
