I know of Nazareth and Nazareth basketball although I'm nowhere near there. I've been to several HS basketball state tournaments in Austin.

Is there any way kids who want to play football can go to another school?

I think just about every 3A and 4A school plays football. There are a few big-city 5A (like Lee HS in Houston) that do not play football.

My son hates sports so it wouldn't matter to me. If I had an athletic child I would make sure he was in a school with a sports program, I think. Otherwise I would have to pay for his sports participation privately.

Default It's just a tough call

I feel as if my kids (athletic or not) would be missing out on an experience they deserve. I read a survey that 43% of Americans say football is their favorite sport. Yet, my kid is going to go to a school that doesn't offer it. It's different if you go to a school that has it and make the choice not to play...at least you had the option. I played Varsity volleyball my sophomore year and made the choice to transfer to a school the next year that didn't have volleyball. I don't regret it because I had a choice. My parents let me choose. I think that my kids should be able to make that choice. If I take them to a school that has football and they choose not to play, that's fine, but at least they had the choice.

Thanks for your input!

An update on Lakewood's (Dallas) Woodrow Wilson Wildcats (since 1928) who have been making the play-offs again for the last six years:
