Hello everyone, I just had couple general questions. Im currently coaching High School Varsity football in Ca, Been coaching for over 8 years. Im possibly looking "AGIAN" at the possibility of moving my family to Dallas FW area. I know that high school football in TEXAS is "WAAAYYYYYY BIGGERRRR" than football in California. In looking at the pay scales for Texas HS football coaches, there paid very very nice, compared to a California head coach in a public school making a one time paid stipend of $4500 for the season, and there Asst Coaches only getting $3200. Which works out to about 30 cents an hour if you factor in all the time in the off season getting ready for the season. So I was wondering if anyone here on the boards were coaches? What are the certifications to get into coaching in texas. ie first aid cpr etc... Are there openings constanlty for football coaches around Dallas FW area? Are there any websites that I can go to?.. I'm also pursing my Career Technical Educational credential teaching auto shop.
Thanks
Chris

I have no idea what the job market for high school football coaches is like. It is football season so I doubt if there are any openings right now. I have a general idea though that there is constant movement in the field - because good coaches move up/around, and bad coaches get reassigned. Chad Morris, the OC for Clemson was the Lake Travis head coach just two years ago. That created a promotion for the then DC, who is now head coach. Which created another opening. And the dominoes fall.

Ok cool. Sounds good. That sounds like here lol. Do you know if high school football coaches are required to be teachers? Or can they walk on like out here in california?

I know in Leander ISD (metro Austin area) all the coaches here seem to teach other classes not just that sport but maybe history, math...and other classes. Good luck to ya.

I think all athletic coaches are also teachers. That may be a Texas requirement. (I don't know for sure).

I'd suggest you contact a Clinic for High School football and start asking questions there.

You might talk to Jerry Jones. After yesterday, he might find a place for you.

Come to Laredo and coach Cigarroa, lmao. 4A by the way. It is required to teach a course as an assistant. You will need a bachelors in some degree.

One thing may be different from coaching in California: Around here, high school football is more a religion than it is a sport and your long-term employment prospects are totally and completely dependent upon your team's record from season to season. That's especially true at schools with a winning tradition. Have a bad season and you're likely to be on the street faster than you can imagine.
