This week, my husband and I went to Fort Worth, Dallas, and Austin, and I just have to gloat...Texas is the finest state in the union! The people, the big, beautiful sky, the hill country, the food, the shopping , the mix of country and cosmopolitan...we are truly blessed.

What do you love most about Texas?

The best part...it's HOME.

That about sums it up. It's so varied in terrain that it offers something for everybody if they but look.

My favorite part is--of course--far West Texas, with its mountains, vast, incredible vistas--and dry climate.

Yet, I can go visit the beautiful hill country or the coast for amazing changes of scenery and food!

I like being able to have a CHL. I don't carry my gun around much, but I like having the option. I like not having a state income tax, but maybe that will change when I buy a house and have to pay property taxes. I like not having extremely cold winters because I don't handle the cold well.

I lived in North Fort Worth for 14 months whilst my daughter was ill and found the people to be so lovely! Friendly, welcoming and so helpful during a troubling time.

I was particularly impressed with the unforced and exuberant politeness and charm.

I am native Texan, and I think that you get 'imprinted' during your youth - to me, although it is not my current favorite area of the state, the area south of Houston has the right smell/feel/flora/fauna that it feels like 'home' to me right down to the core. That area is so developed now it is nearly unrecognizable, and I was only there until about ~10 years old (central TX after that), but it will forever be home.

Growing up there, I spent hours and hours wandering the woods/creeks hunting snakes (capture and sell the good ones, kill the moccasins). The fact that I could do that as a 7,8, 9 year old is partly due to being raised in Texas, and partly due to the different 'era', I suppose.

I used to stock up on breakfast tacos when I was headed out of state.

Upon returning, when the scenery changed after Shulenberg, and I could get KKYX on the radio then I really felt I was home.

It isnt those states, but why put their names in a Spanish accent? Texas is far more hispanic than New York and almost as much as California.

What do you love most about Texas?
You say you love this state, but it appears that you love this "part" of this state. It appears you favor the I-35 corridor and project this love to the whole state. Notice the only responses this thread has received is from posters who live on, or along, this 1 highway. Do you love Deep South Texas, West Texas, East Texas The Gulf coast? Are there any areas of the state you avoid, or just can't stand, (I bet there are) ?

Tell us about these other areas and maybe I will believe you love this "whole" State of Texas
