My driver's license renewal was denied due to "failure to pay" a non-moving violation I didn't even know about because it was 2 years ago. I paid on October 12. How long should I expect to wait before I receive my driver's license? I used the DPS website, but their customer service is so incompetent, it makes a Russian government office look like a spa.

Anyone have experience with this, by chance? Do you know how long I should wait before I get my driver's license? It's uncomfortable driving around with an expired license, even with the paper the DPS gave me.

If the paper you received is a renewal license you're good to go. It should have a picture, your old picture but a picture non the less. As for receiving an actual plastic license card, look for it in 4wks.

You can use your passport as an ID for travel if your license is not received before your travel date.

True, but I don't want those goon TSA smurfs touching & contaminating my passport & looking at the funny alphabets on the stickers & stamps & wondering if I'm an "American".

For anyone who cares, I finally got the driver's license on November 3. Whew! Took 'em long enough. At least it really is about 3 weeks instead of 4. Good job, incompetent bureaucracy!

Gosh, what am I missing here? You got the renewal in 16 business days after you paid a fine that you owed. In a state with as many people as Texas has, that actually sounds pretty good. I know other states that have fewer residents and they're much, much slower than 16 days!

Carry your old expired photo-DL, along with the renewal certification paper. That will meet the Photo-ID requirement.
