Hello all,
Literally JUST arrived in town (currently in a hotel). lol. Can anyone tell me what areas to avoid? I know the sw is the growing area. Saw a nice apt complex near tradewind airport (silver oak). Area seems nice and new...like its growing. Any info is helpful. Pretty excited to be here from Michigan.[/quote]

It's supposed to snow there Sunday and Monday, so there's that. Welcome to Texas. (It's probably a little early for snow, but not out of the question. The weather is a bit unpredictable in 3/4 of the state, except maybe in summer.)

That aside, I think the SW side and near the medical center are good places to be. There are several posters from Amarillo on the site, so they may be able to help out more.

The Silver Oak apartments are owned by the builder Blue Haven homes. They have a program where a percentage (if I remember correctly) of your rent can be applied to one of their homes. Tradewind (the area where Silver Oaks is located) is almost completely built out, although there are still some builders there.

Default Southwest Amarillo

All of southwest Amarillo is good. The south side and west sides are also fine. There are also some nice neighborhoods in far northwest Amarillo. Just stay away from the north, northeast, east and part of the southeast sections. Crime is just as tad over the national average, but again, you will be best off in the nicer areas.

Welcome to Amarillo, you will enjoy it here.
