Their mockery kinda show's their own pretension and their pretension shines through with each state they decide to move to in the Sun Belt.

The point is, they're not as vocal about it, but since you just used 1,000 words to say what could have been said in 10, I'm probably wasting my breath.

Its not just Texas, I've meet people from Chicago saying they are the best and had one say that Chicago is more populated than Texas, I had to laugh though. But in all honesty I never meant anyone maybe besides city data and sports saying Texas is the greatest.

True, but only because I don't feel the same about Texas.

I really wish I knew the answer to this, but I find it interesting.

If you've ever watched the show on the history channel "How The States Got Their Shapes", the episode that was talking about Texas mentioned (and proved) that Texans have the most pride when it comes to their state. I think they explained why, but I honestly don't remember. I saw it a while ago.

Edit: I think the show said that a lot of it had to do with the fact that they were once an independent country. How that could make them feel "inferior" to every other state doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

(I have nothing against Texas or people from Texas, and I'm not saying they do feel inferior)

What I wrote wasn't that long, it couldn't have been explained in a shorter word count.

Yes, many Texans are prideful, but it has more to do with the Texas Gov't and the officials creating a sort of Ultra-Pride overload, rather than the everyday regular Texan citizen acting neurotic and going goo-goo ga-ga over being a Texan. They over-do it with all the star designs on the freeways, and raising the Texas flag as high as the American flag. In my opinion, that's O'Ding it, and it looks kinda tacky.

So yes, in a way Texans are overly prideful and it comes out as tacky. I'm sure there are plenty of people on both coast who can care less, and have an more negative view of Texas, than the average prideful resident. Once again, most of the pride comes from it's history, and it becoming an independent nation from the hands of Mexico. Other than that alot of the pride isn't warranted.

What is your point? Why didn't you ask this in the Texas forum? You make a post saying Houston doesnt deserve to be liked than follow that up by making this thread baiting and generalizing an entire population.

Texans tend to think of Texas as the greatest possible place ever, anywhere. People in other parts of the US, especially the cities of the northeast and west coast tend to think of Texas as the place that makes people in other countries think America is backwards. So of course there is going to be some disagreement and defensiveness.
Then why are people from those areas flocking to a "backwards" state?

Jobs, economy, low cost of living, decent quality of life, good place to start a family, religious values no matter what your faith is.
