My best advice, if you don't mind climbing still towers, go get you a Wind Mill tech certificate from some place like Midland College and start working on Wind Mills! This is a crazy growing field here in West Texas and since you already climb towers, it's similar but with a slight change. Plus the money is good.

West Texas has one of the largest if not the largest wind mill farms in the country! Texas is set to expand their wind farms as well to at least 2015! It's funny when you think about, I'll be on an oil well site surrounded by wind mills lol. Anyhow, I'm not blowing smoke up your rear, I actually thought twice about it my self. My CDL class was the next room down from the wind mill class.

Are you looking to perform pipeline service, pipeline construction, easement/ROW or are you looking at midstream operations / sales side? There are a lot of different ways to get into midstream...

Are you a civil engineer who got boxed into telecom?

This is probably a silly question based on your location, but are you willing to relocate?

Wind turbine techs generally do GOOD, however lots of travel to sites that are as remote as it gets.
