Not in the hill country but if you are ever up near Gainesville it is worth is to head west to Muenster, Tx. Forget the name of the of the place but it is right on the corner of Main Street and Hwy 82. Great German beers on tap and the food is great as well.

In Fredericksburg Der Lindenbaum is absolutely the best. The Brewery does pizza and Tex Mex. The beer is brewed on site and is not German in any way.

Friesenhaus restaurant inn New Braunfels is very good. Ran by a German family from the Schleswig-Holstein, Germany area.

There's a good place in Wahlburg (Williamson County), not open everyday and maybe just for dinner - can't remember. You could probably find a reference to it from a google search -- they're certainly not the sort of place to have a website.

Amazing! I just wouldn't have thought they'd bother. They are very good IME. BTW St Peter's Lutheran Church (think I've got the name right) in Wahlberg is worth a look in, if you enjoy churches. The doors have been unlocked when I've been there and I was able to get some photos.

Theres a German restaurant in downtown Bryan. I've never eaten there myself but I've heard good things about it.

Bayerische Brauhaus - Bryan, TX

I wonder if the Heidelberg Hof is still in existance on the Jacksboro Hwy in Ft Worth. My instincts tell me probably not, but you never know. It's not that they were that good, but they were so retro, sort of 1950s and kind of soulful; and cheap as well.

Just googled for it, and as far as I can tell it must be gone now. Someone on a Ft Worth forum not related to City-Data had it mixed up with Eidelweiss in Fort Worth, which is still likely in existance and which someone may already have mentioned on this thread. However, Eidelweiss was a big barney place that had a cavernous German beer hall feel and I never really found it charming. It also was really on the opposite side of town from Heidelberg Hof.
