Structure: Location: Latitude: Longitude: Heights:
Building HI FORUM TOWER Dallas, TX
32-47-23.00N NAD 83 96-48-25.00W
420 feet site elevation (SE)
1080 feet above ground level (AGL) 1500 feet above mean sea level (AMSL)
Initial findings of this study indicate that the structure as described exceeds obstruction standards and/or would have an adverse physical or electromagnetic interference effect upon navigable airspace or air navigation facilities. Pending resolution of the issues described below, the structure is presumed to be a hazard to air navigation.
If the structure were reduced in height so as not to exceed 378 feet above ground level (798 feet above mean sea level), it would not exceed obstruction standards and a favorable determination could subsequently be issued.
To pursue a favorable determination at the originally submitted height, further study would be necessary. Further study entails distribution to the public for comment, and may extend the study period up to 120 days. The outcome cannot be predicted prior to public circularization.
If you would like the FAA to conduct further study, you must make the request within 60 days from the date of issuance of this letter.

So the FAA said the building was 700 feet too tall...

With all the development and relocations in the Dallas area, I cannot imagine why it would be losing on this poll.

Well possibly because houston has the most diversity out of any large city in the US, that's probably part of it

I think it partially has to do with the fact that Houston feels bigger than either Dallas or Ft Worth. DFW feels like the bigger msa and has 300k+ more people, but it's split between two cities. All 6.5+ million in Houston are centered around one hub.

Because historically since this thread was created 3 and a half years ago, Houston has been dominating. This is a development thread.. How many miles of light rail has Dallas built since this thread was created? How many professional stadiums has Dallas built since then? How many skyscrapers have gone up in Dallas over that time..? I do believe the answer is a Big. Fat. ZERO for all three questions.

But the industrial disjointed unaesthetically pleasing image of Houston has not changed one bit. People still view Houston as they did 20 years ago.....it's just a larger version....it's visually the opposite in Dallas.

Press is different from the experience you get while visiting. ..visitors outside of the know. Will not see a difference. What they will see is traffic that's worse than it was 20 years ago. Houston has always had tall buildings scattered throughout the city, giving an overwhelming drive on the freeways. The new stuff that's being built is hidden somewhere in the spaghetti bowl. You have to live there to notice it at first glance. As a whole Houston looks no different. If you haven't been in Dallas in 20 years you would DEFINITELY notice the difference. So many noticeable additions.

And the city has done a lot to fix itself up. A lot more has been put into aesthetics. Houston's popularity has rised nationally in recent years. I think it started with the Super Bowl in 2004. Since then, the city has been a more popular host for big events and it's profile has been raised in the music world (rappers repping Houston) and sports world (huge recognizable superstars in the major sports...Watt, Correa, Harden, etc.).

Houston has a nice setup. Just need to fix the rail transit and aesthetics a bit more.
