Can someone let me know which Zoo's in Texas are the best? I've been to a bunch of Zoos across the country, and my fiance and I like to see one when we travel.

We will be in Houston in about 6 weeks, we will also be in San Antonio, Galveston, and Austin.

We are exploring these cities to find a place to live in about a year.

Thanks,
Justin

I think the general consensus is that Fort Worth and Houston have the best zoos.

Dallas has had a notoriously disappointing zoo for much of its history, but they've made a strong and successful effort to turn it around the past few years. It is paying off according to everyone I've spoken with that has visited the zoo in the past year or so. I've heard great things about the upgrades.

Down town Austin can be a zoo after dark, no admission to the street scene either. I havent visited the true zoos to address your question

The Zoo in Austin is just starting out so it is way smaller than the one in Houston and SA.

The Houston Zoo has more animals and species and it is a nice park with other things to do.

SA Zoo also has tons of animals, Their Aviary is cool. It is also near a park and Near The Japanese Gardens which is free and really cool. That place is the only place I miss in SA. Really love those Koi ponds set in that old Quarry

I agree. The Dallas Zoo was garbage for many years but the expansion made the zoo so much better. Now I actually enjoy going to the Dallas Zoo. You really need to see the upgrades.

I also enjoy the Dallas World Aquarium. It's a neat set-up.

I think San Antonio has a really nice zoo. Maybe not top-notch in terms of size and animals but it is in a really pretty part of town and very clean and friendly.

The Forest Park Zoo in Fort Worth is wonderful. I wish it still had an aquarium, but c'est la vie.

The zoo in Abilene is small, but worth going to. I especially love the pedestrian bridge over the giraffe enclosure, where you can feed the giraffes by hand.
