I don't watch the show especially after the pay for play debacle, but I thought he was from Austin. The Austin publications and residents claim so anyway, with no mention of Houston that I can recall.

That's a peculiar way to put it Anyway, yeah Paul Qui is the chef at Austin restaurant Uchiko and former chef at East Side King, both really good! Definitely good exposure for Austin and Texas as a whole...I like what he said in his official post-win interview: "It isn't all about BBQ and Tex Mex."

I think the confusion is that his hometown is indeed Houston, but trained and earned his stripes in Austin where he currently resides.
