Smoking hurts everyone in society by jacking up health care costs. So, when someone smokes, it most definitely does affect me.

Really? Half of smokers have quit in the past decade or so, right? So...have your healthcare costs or insurance premiums gone down to reflect that decline?

No, they haven't. In fact, I'm betting they've gone up, haven't they?

No. Half of all smokers didn't quit 10 years ago. Please show me where you got this information from.

But let's play devils advocate. Yes, a million people that smoked for 30 years stopped a decade ago. So now they are all better and not suffering from any ill health effects. That's now how it works. Even if EVERYONE stopped smoking today, and they should, we would be dealing with smoker related health issues for the next 50 years as all the smokers developed and battled lung cancer, emphysema, oral cancer. It's sad to see someone struggling with cancer. It's absolutely heart breaking.

They didn't quit, they died after using medical resources to fight cancer, copd and other diseases that they gave themselves after voluntarily inhailing known carcinogens. You don't have the right to infringe on my right to life, some that smoking and second hand smoke has been proven to do.

When some fat slob won't put down the Twinkies, that affects me too. What's next the food police?

skillkit, just roll your own. It's cheaper, plus you don't get the added chemicals, crappy new paper, etc..

As of 2000, smoking was practiced by around 1.22 billion people. At current rates of 'smoker replacement' and market growth, this may reach around 1.9 billion in 2025.
