How much would it cost for a decent house in a decent area in Amarillo, Texas ?

I do not want to live in a area where there is tagging or gangs running around.

What would I be looking at paying for a 2 bedroom 2 bath house or a 3 bedroom 2 bath house around 1,500 square feet in a decent area of Amarillo, Texas ?

Try this Multiple Listing Service site. I would choose area 2, or 7, or 8. Also look at Canyon or Bushland as well. Those would be the areas best suited for what you are looking for, in my opinion.

there are lots of houses that meet that qualification in Hillside Terrace (off of Soncy, south of Hillside) that are being built right now. The houses across the street from me (new constuction in HIllside Terrace) are about 1509 sq feet and are priced around $130-145,000.

There are also homes in Tradewinds (south of i40- near Ross and 34th street) that are that size of home for about 115-130,000. These homes (for the most part) are about 6-8 years old. There is a little bit of construction still going on in the area, but they don't have a whole lot of lots left if you want to build new.

My neighborhood is great...Westover Village in far SW Amarillo. Most homes start around $185K. The neighborhood is quiet and secluded. Zero gang activity as well.

I bought a house for 120K. It's a modest house, grass, and so forth, two bedrooms. With the housing bust, it might be a big cheaper -- not sure about that.
