A sign from nature. See the red of excessive temps from August. Perhaps someone from above is warning us Has any controversial person from the state stepped into the limelight recently?

Actually, I was thinking the other day about the relationship of cognitive dissonance theory, the insufferable Texas heat and the recent range fires, and the tendency of some on this forum to proclaim so vociferously Texas' greatness. The saying, "I think he doth protest too much," would seem to capture the situation: in this case if you choose to live under some very aversive conditions you may have to fend off and neutralise the dissonant perceptions of the negative aspects of your environment by all the more loudly touting the positive things about your situation, even to the extent of distorting the positive out of all proportion and in fact buying into some utter nonsense and demagoguery in the process.

So, will you post something like this when The Big One hits California?

That's right DoctorJef. And there are many who fit the incendiary personality in the Lonely Star state. The heat generated by the fury of the Perry camp, the Tea Parties and their anger, the anti-almost-everything stance, etc. It's comparable to a wildfire, instead of a productive / controlled fire.

California? They've got their own forum. We're talking about Texas, and aren't going to drift off-subject. Diversion tactics are for the slow and the dumb.

Personally, I feel cursed...not so much by heat...as by drought. Around here, the worst drought in recorded history ended in the fall of 2009. El Nino rain (while very nice!) didn't even last a year. Ever since, our present drought has just gotten worse..and worse. It might even get as bad as the summer of 2009 sooner or later!

And don't for get DC with their Earth Quake as well...or was that our Forefathers rolling in their graves

Seriously, you guys got it all wrong, Texas is a self cleaning state....these droughts and heat waves are designed to rid the state of worthless cry baby Liberals

In short, if you can't take the heat, get the hell out!
