While I have nothing but love for Baylor, I wouldn't exactly call having 12,000-15,000 students a major university. At best its a medium to small sized college compared to the other schools in Texas.

By comparison UT Tyler with over 6,650 students is about half the size of Baylor. Not bad for a town not exactly known for its college life.

As far as Private schools go, yes, it is a major university.

No its not.

Baylor doesn't even rank in the top 10 private schools nationally.

If Baylor was located in Tyler, you'd be singing a different tune. Baylor is very much a major university.

Oh, so it has to be in the Top 10 to be a major university?

So I guess LSU isn't a major universty, then. Ok.

It's far more major than anything Tyler has. Next topic...

As awesome as Tyler is, it's still kind of disappointing that they're one of the best examples we have of "beautiful Texas", because they could really do more to spruce things up a bit.

They need to pull a Greenville, and just plant a huge mass of trees downtown.

I think Corpus Christi will be the next major metro area, 500k plus. That TX gulf cities aren't larger boggles my mind. You can still buy property really near the gulf for around $100k.

I'll just point out again that McAllen is already major, at least compared to the options listed. It was right behind El Paso in 2010, might well be larger than El Paso at this point. That would make it the next largest MSA in Texas after Austin. And it doesn't even include the rest of the RGV, like Brownsville/Harlingen, which is as large as the Corpus MSA on it's own.

List of Texas metropolitan areas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So many people are there, but so few people seem to really know about it. Just watch, one day it will have a pro sports team and everyone will be like, What?

I know it will be one of these but not having been to all of them to see what they have to offer I'm not sure which one will become "major" I personally say Lubbock stands out for its size, location, and Tech.
