At the Washburn Tunnel, Pasadena side, if you take the road going over the tunnel rather than down into the tunnel, it will take you to near the south bank of the Houston Ship Channel, near the property of what was Champion Paper Mill (not sure of current status). Up on that property is (was) a monument that marks 'the approximate site of the capture of Santa Anna', which, as many historians want to tell you, is near the San Jacinto battleground. Nonetheless...

All the monuments mentioned above, plus the one designated here.

And, if you go really late, you can make a stop at the Red Bluff Drive-in, which is a pretty hot monument itself.... if it's still there.

Thumbs up Paisano Pete

I'll never forget my buddy, Paisano Pete, the world's largest roadrunner. He's in Fort Stockton. Another great slice of Americana!

Do you have a picture of this? I remember seeing a huge cross on the side of the road on I 40 just before Oklahoma state line.

Then I have to also put this on my list, I forget it because it in my backyard.

The drive in isn't there any more but the spot over the tunnel is a great ship watching spot.

I'll add the San Jacinto Monument to my list along with the Piney Woods of East Texas.
