Alright y’all,

I’m from Louisiana originally and although I LOVE IT and miss my family... the economy tanked, crime is high and it’s not exactly a place I’d like to meet someone and start a family. I moved to Colorado for college and I’m almost done so I’ve made the decision to move to TEXAS! I’ve done research and read nothing but good things. Plus, I’ve pretty much settled on east Texas since it isn’t that far from the LA border so I can go home on holidays and such. In no particular order, I’ve listed below what I want from my future home...

1. NO SNOW OR UNBAREABLE FREEZING TEMPS! I like very mild winters and want more sunny days year round. But, I do love those summer thunderstorms. I’m also not too scared of hurricanes. I am aware that moving anywhere near water and down south, there is potential to lose everything in a hurricane. My family raised me strong. *NEED*
2. I’d like to be close to a beach. I love the beach and I read most beaches in Texas allow dogs which is awesome!! (The beach thing isn’t a requirement but it’s high on my wants list LOL)
3. A low crime rate is a must. I will be moving on my own and want to feel safe in my town...as we all do. Low rape, break in, and robbery!! *NEED*
4. Somewhere with good job prospects. I am finishing my business degree which leaves me with a pretty wide variety of choices on what to do with it. But, I struggled in Louisiana and that constant fear of lay offs and not being able to find a replacement job...I want to avoid that! *NEED*
5. I prefer East Texas. Somewhere 6 hours or less from Lafayette, LA. That’s where I’ll be going to see family.
6. Things to do. I’m a simple girl and entertained pretty easy. I’m just looking for a couple good restaurants, some bars, and random places to meet people since I’ll be starting over completely. DOG PARKS ARE A PLUS SINCE I DO HAVE A LAB!
7. Finally, I don’t want to live in a old run down town but I also don’t want a busy, crowded, hussle like city. A happy medium! WITH NICE PEOPLE!! I miss that southern charm and hospitality, that’s a main reason I want to go back down. My town is filled with rude people, traffic, bad drivers, and selfish greedy personalities. I miss smiles and friendliness, people inviting neighbors over for bbqs and crawfish boils. Everyone is willing to help everyone! *NEED*

Let me know what y’all think and where I can check things off this list!! I’m looking forward to advice and ideas and seeing what people suggest!! Hit me with it y’all!! (:

Find a job, then move to the town or city where that job is located.

Houston is your choice. North side, Northeast or Katy. N. or NE side ... Woodlands, Atascocita, Kingwood areas. Take I-10 East.

Bob is pretty much "right on". You can not live, close to the beach in Texas, and not run the risk of hurricanes. low need as you said.

But for JOBS, Bob hit the nail squarely on the head, IF you are in Eastern Texas, near Louisiana these listed areas "are the place to be".

The rest should be found where Bob suggested, as well. Reps to Bob.

You’ve basically described much of Greater Houston. Crawfish boils, southern hospitality, nice people, beaches, good economy, 2.5 - 3 hours from Lafayette, etc...

Houston is probably your best option.

Do check out Birmingham in your research.

Wait. The beach. You’re stuck with Galveston that misses a number of your points.

Well there is South Padre Island. But you deal with the tourists and .. . spring break!
Corpus is gorgeous and always a breeze.

I agree you'll want to move inland and a drive to go to the beach. Unless you want to live on the beach and evacuate during hurricane warnings. That'll be tough with a dog, especially an older dog because dogs age quickly.
