Casinos = redistribution of wealth as democrats would have wanted. Except the transfer is in the opposite direction that they want. Oh, and it occurs through free will.

What???
That's like saying that republicans like welfare, except that they like it going in the opposite direction.

Let me CAPITALIZE the important words to assist in your reading comprehension. Casinos REDISTRIBUTE wealth from the POOR back into the hands of the WEALTHY, and the poor do it WILLINGLY.

Casino owners love reoublicans - one just gave 10 million to Romney's campaign: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/0...ney-super-pac/

Yes! It's old rich white republicans that are trying to get rid of gambling in Texas:

But seriously, Texas would be wise to allow gambling within a 5 mile zone around the perimeter of the state to capture some of the capital outflow thats going to places like Bossier, Choctaw, Winstar and others. If people are going to waste their money, they can at least stop short of the state line and waste it in Texas.

Hi, Louisiana resident here. I would not be opposed to Texas having casinos given that it was restricted to certain areas. I think Louisiana should have something that contributes to it's state because most of us have to go to Texas for good entertainment, concerts, shopping etc. So why can't Louisiana have something that attracts Texans? I mean Texas already has plenty of amenities that attract us Louisianians. Hell, many of us end up moving to Texas because of the lack of job opportunities here! But again, I would be okay with casinos in Texas if it were restricted to certain areas. I don't think Austin, Houston or Dallas needs casinos. I would say if any city did get them, Galveston should be the city, b/c it has a gaming history. I say restrict Texas casinos to Galveston and select Native American tribes.

Yeah, we can see how much casinos have helped Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. become such great states!

Texas doesn't need that. We need to keep concentrating on attracting and producing more companies and businesses, education, and quality of life issues.

Texas already has many companies headquartered in the state. Like I said, many of us Louisianians have to move there for the opportunities. Even outside of that, we have to take the road up to Houston just to get some good entertainment or good shopping. You don't think I'd like to keep some of that money in Louisiana? Not to say that I'd never go to Houston again, but it would be nice to just be able to keep some of it here.

I don't care if people gamble, but I'd probably vote against it. Sound strange? Well, it's because I think casinos are TACKY. I used to love driving through New Mexico on a moon lit night. Now you see blinking neon pinks lights for miles. And then there's the gaming boards and the greedy owners. If they could rework the whole casino aspect somehow, it might possibly be alright. You can take always take a gambling boat out of Corpus if you need too.

^ This...

I to am neither republican or churchy but I absolutely believe that gambling is uniquely evil and should not be allowed.
