I have been wanting to move out of central California for a while now. I currently live in Lemoore. When I moved here in 1984 there were just over 12k residents. Now there are over 24k. The much larger towns are "close" with the closest being 8 miles then 25 miles and up. While there are many wonderful places to visit in California, I am tired of the drugs and gangs other negative entities that have slowly overwhelmed what I once saw as a beautiful state (I a left L.I. New York at 21 so I have lived on that coast as well and have seen the negatives and positives there).

I am a conservative who believes in gun ownership. I want to live in a State that supports my constitutional rights. I have found that I prefer a smaller community yet can still have a private life. I did so much research on different areas of Texas...safety, crime, cost of living, and tornadoes were on my list. I also have two kids (11 and 15) who I have to keep in the forefront of my thoughts. I am also widowed, so safety and crime are big on my list. Time and time again, Hutto lands on my list.

I would like to hear about Hutto from the old and new residents. Are there areas to avoid when looking for a place to live (I saw a few places one on Decker Drive if anyone has info on that area). Any water or environmental or health issues? I have read several threads on here and I'd prefer not to hear from those who do not live nor have ever lived in Hutto because that is not what I am asking about. Thanks to all those who spent the time reading this!

I suggest you'll probably get a better response if you post this in the Austin Forum.

Yeah, Hutto is an independent town with a long history, but it's in the Austin metro area, so my guess is that more folks from the area are likely to read it there.
