I still think they ought to be spread out over the state. First, re-open the two Indian casinos that were closed a few years ago. Padre Island, the Panhandle, the Hill country, and maybe Galveston would be good spots for casino/hotels.

Default Texas Gambling

What legislation is not thinking about is all the money casinos put towards education, road construction ect. If any of them would look at the statistics of Las Vegas casinos or even Louisanna, they would find that 30% of their money goes back to the state. I'm curious what they think is a better reason "not" to have legalized gambling in Texas.

Well, the lottery was supposed to help education in Texas but the state of education here is sorry. We're one of the leading states as far as high school dropouts and we have alot of academically unacceptable schools. I don't know what they're doing with the lottery money but it sure doesn't seem to be helping.

Well, for quick gambling fixes, I guess I'll have to keep giving my money to Louisiana. It's funny going over there and seeing nothing but Texas license plates.

Believe it or not, a lot of people actually have self control when it comes to gambling. Matter of fact, I seriously doubt hardly any person here would have their lives totally destroyed and ruined if it did become legal.

And from reading some of the earlier post in this thread, why were some of you saying Texas would never allow gambling because it was the bible belt. Have some of you never been here and seen all the strip clubs we have.

I'm confused. I understood that Texas had great schools/education and the reason why people didn't mind paying such high taxes. So if the schools are so bad, where is the money going?

How about the Alabama-Coushatta reservation as the first one in Texas? Livingston might boom. It's picturesque.

Does anyone know where I could find the stats on how many players go outside of Texas to gamble, be it by air, boat, bus or car?

Prohibitions of casinos ( & prostitution ) is totally antiamerican.

Adult people have the right to do whatever they like, even if it is a "sin ",even if they lose money by doing it,as long as they d n harm other people.

Noone has the right to prohibit anything to other people,if it is none of his business...

U d n like to gamble...? Then,U d n gamble,but let other people gamble..

It is sad to see almost 50% of the poll participants act in an antiamerican way...

Texas has 254 counties, 46 are completely dry, 169 are partially dry or "moist", only 39 are entirely "wet.

Check the stats of your local county, there are MORE alcohol related accidents in the counties where the purchase and consumption of alcohol is restricted.

How does this relate?

One guess why there are dry counties? You can thank the Baptists for that AND you can also thank them for the delay in the lottery, horse racing, dog racing AND gambling. I have never seen so many Baptist churches in all my life as I saw when living in Texas.

For them, its not enough to restrict their own behavior, they want to push their morals on everyone they can reach.
