Quote:
This year, our ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student(5 percent).

About the US News Education Rankings Methodologies
Quote:
US News recently released their selections for the Best High Schools in the U.S. This list specifically addresses college readiness by following a three-step process, (1) all students had to be performing above "average" for the state, (2) from those that passed #1, then whether the school's least advantaged students (income, race) were performing above state average among similar students, (3) those schools that passed both the criteria for #1 and #2 were then judged for college readiness using AP or IB test data (participation rate AND pass rate for these exams).

Quote:
The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies (Subs. lunch) and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E). A (P) next to the school's name denotes a private school.

2011 TBEC Honor Roll School by Region

... See Methodology used: Texas Business & Education Coalition - TBEC
Quote:
Being recognized as a TBEC Honor Roll school is the most prestigious academic award a Texas public school can receive - the award was established in 2000 to draw attention to our public schools that perform at the highest academic levels. Based exclusively on Commended Performance, the state’s most demanding academic standard, TBEC Honor Roll schools have performed at this level of achievement for at least three consecutive years on all subjects tested. The 253 schools that made the 2011 Honor Roll, which included 181 elementary schools, 38 middle schools and 34 high schools, represent less than 4% of all the public schools in Texas.
