Link: Mom gets 99 years in prison for gluing tot's hands - Yahoo! News

Sentencing this mom to 99 years. C'mon - just why don't you impose capital punishment??

Don't you think judges out to use their common sense? they are severely lacking it

According to the article, she didn't just glue her daughter's hands to a wall - she beat her nearly to death. She was in a coma for several days.

I think life without parole would be more appropriate.

Since you obviously take issue with the sentence, what do you think would have been more appropriate?

The crime she committed is not a Capital Offense. If the daughter had died, yes, the mother could have been tried for the death penalty. But since she lived, the death penalty was not an option.

I imagine the appropriate justice will be forthcoming after she gets to the pen, unless they keep her in solitary confinement. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes, but she deserves what she's going to get.

There are no excuses for what she did to her daughter and no sense trying to make any. She's just a sorry, low-life at the bottom of the barrel and I am sick to death of these type people wasting the air for the rest of us. I have no use for them at all.

I was surprised that the sentence was so steep. I would have expected less, even in Texas. On a side note, I don't think the death penalty should be an option anyways. I look forward to its abolition.

Really? She beat the baby almost to death THEN glued her hands to the wall, hanging her. As the poor kid fell into a heap the skin was ripped off her hands. As a mom, I have no words.

The sentence wasn't steep at all considering how heinous the crime was. Scum like her should just be taken behind the courthouse and put down. Court adjourned. Save the taxpayers some money at the same time.

Something to keep in mind...

She'll be eligible for parole in 30 years. By then, at the current average cost per prisoner in Texas of $21,390, her punishment will have cost the taxpayers $641,700 in 2012 dollars. With inflation, it could easily top a million bucks.

As horrendous as this case was, the woman was obviously emotionally disturbed, and I can't help wondering if seven years of intense psychological treatment might not be a better solution all around.
