As hard as Dallas and the rest of the state come down on Houston, that shouldn't have even come out of your fingertips.

Most of it is Dallas folks trying to get under the skin of Houston posters because they feel the need to put down Dallas for some reason and point out every little detail to make a flaw out of it. The Dallas posters just dish it right back at 'em.

Really? Where in Ohio are you from, again? I certainly see how someone might get a similar feel with Columbus and Dallas, but Cincinnati reminds me more of Atlanta.

And neither side is more or less guilty.

I grew up in the Columbus area. I moved to Atlanta when I was turning 23, for a change of scenery. I could see the Atlanta/Cincy comparison, however Atlanta is obviously a better place to live. I really do like Atlanta and had some great experiences there, but I never quite felt like I fit in. I came to Dallas and loved it. I would move to Houston before I went back to Atlanta.

Well, this coming from a guy who loves both Houston and Dallas, I can say that Houston has the advantage over Dallas just because of the fact that it has one of the busiest international seaports in the world in it's jurisdiction. Also, Houston is an ever expanding city of over 2.3 million people that is far more important to the commerce of this country than either the Port of New Orleans, New York, or Long Beach, CA.

Houston also has natural advantages such as the Western Extent of the East Texas Piney Woods, and the Gulf Coast Coastal Prarie.

I live in Dallas, and although I have undying loyalty to this city, I am also man enough to admit that Houston has some major advantages over Dallas and why Houston is the Alpha International city in Texas. People can hate on H-Town all they want, but the truth is, Houston is a major driving factor for the economy in Texas and in the United States as a whole.

Chicago & Houston are of more global importance than Vegas by a long shot.
Well Said I agree. Houston is far more important to the well being of this nations economy than a city such as Las Vegas.

For me, I can't hate on either Dallas or Houston. I live in Dallas, but I love visiting Houston and as an avid outdoors-man, I know that I would like living there as well.

All I can say is Kudos to both cities because they really are two of the best cities in the world in many categories!!

I really used to believe the Houston roads were better from reading on here and the pics posted, etc. However upon visiting I found that certain roads were better and others were worse. 610 on the west side, The Katy Freeway and I-45 North and portions of US 59 are the best roads in Houston. The rest are looking pretty anitquated. I was really shocked at how bad the northern stretch of Beltway 8 and I-10 heading East.

Dallas just has a lot more freeways. With the current improvements taking place in the DFW area it will not be long before there is no question that DFW has the better roads.

Also, about suburbs it's funny how you mention Houston to Galveston. The entire eastern edge of the Houston area has lots of open land from the NE side near Summerwood all the way to Galveston. Yes, there's some burbs and development in there, but still lots of open land. Which is fine, however this is never mentioned when people from Houston post about all the wide open land that separates Dallas and Ft Worth and how far and disconnected they are (which is not actually true). You can look at a google satellite map and actually see reality.
Um, Beltway 8 is currently under construction between 249 and JFK. Even then, it is still three lanes each way. 10 east was recently expanded inside the loop, and outside the loop it is an eight lane freeway until just outside the Beltway. The worst freeway in Houston is easily 290, but it is currently under expansion. I just moved back to Houston and there is no question that Houston has the better road and freeway system. There is a larger grid setup in Houston vs DFW, and even with all of the expansions in DFW, those are only small sections of the freeways. You don't see things like the Katy Freeway or 290 expansion in dfw.

And yes, the NE side of the Houston metro is the least developed side, but all one has to do is check out those density.maps that have been posted here and see that the density in metro Houston is more consistent than the islands of density you get in dfw. The difference in the setup of each is definitely noticeable.

And instead of trying to "compete" with Dallas or Fort Worth as you say, if anything, they all do such an awesome job of working together and functioning as one huge, cohesive Metroplex. It's pretty much the best of both worlds.
I guess you weren't around for the Super Bowl.
