If the planets line up right-we will be getting our cold, snow ridden butts out of northern new york this summer and basking in the beauty of Texas. It will be short but I need it desperately.
So the plan is driving through Wichita Falls-Abilene-Midland-to our destination of Marfa. I must see this part of Texas-then headed straight up north through Van Horn to Colorado Springs.

My husband Loves chicken fried steak and has not had any in eight years!! Please based on our driving routes any suggestions of places to stop to eat some yummy food. Thank you

Belle's Chicken Dinner House in Abilene is pretty good. The Beehive has locations in both Abilene and Albany that get rave reviews.

Mary's Cafe located in Strawn, TX(halfway between Abilene and Fort Worth on I 20). Its a total hole in the wall in a tiny town, but it's the only chicken fried steak I've had that's comparable to my mommas. It's not overly breaded and crispy like a lot of places, but a huge steak. You won't leave hungry, the small covers your entire dinner plate! Good place if your driving through.

In Midland, Wall Street Bar & Grill serves some great chicken fried steak. I haven't had it in many years, but my husband still goes there regularly for business and still eats it there and says its still just as good as I remember. Its is one of only a handful of places I where I will CFS.

Also, if your trip takes you through Oklahoma City, Cheever's Cafe serves the best I've ever eaten, and I'm a native Texan, whose eaten it all over. They do it with not just your basic cream gravy, but jalapeno cream gravy. Heavenly. However, this is the kind of place you should have reservations for.

Shady Grove in Austin had a green Chili gravy chicken fried steak that was really good. I don't know if they still do.
