I don't think the 635 reconstruction accomplished much, but it'd be interesting to see if data points exist to substantiate my personal belief.

I would have said 635. I would have said 635 every day since I moved to Dallas. I don't think the reconstruction project was worthwhile. I haven't been on every road in Texas, but Interstate 35 through Austin has a bad reputation and Houston has some bad traffic.
Nah...635 is a breeze now. The Tex-Epress is the best freeway experience in Texas.

I personally think it's a tossup between 635 in Dallas, and 35 in Austin/San Antonio. Both stretches of highway are of the devil. And I'm sure there's some stretch in Houston that gives them both a run for the money.

For pure speed, yes it's the most fun in urban Texas. For seeing things, 635 probably isn't the best since it's sunken and all views are blocked, but architecturally it's still nice to look at I guess.

Its only sunken if you take the toll lanes. the top portion is above ground....and while not as fast as the lowr lane its still an easy drive.

Are we discussing Scenic freeways or less congested freeways?...just asking for the class.

Well, since I live in the Houston area, all of the freeways around Houston are horrible before and after work.

I would have preferred a solution to the 2011-15 I-635 reconstruction that did not involved tolled lanes. 95%+ of drivers are not using Texpress lanes.

Man, I hate that section. It’s built in a stupid way because it’s only 2 lanes on each side for a couple miles. It’s been that way since 1994. I don’t understand why they won’t expand that section. I still think it’s not worse than most roads in Texas though because it doesn’t carry much cars like I-45 Houston, I-35 Austin, or I-610 in Houston.

I’m just surprised that I-45 gets a little recognition throughout the state compared to other busy freeways. I seriously think that road is the top 3 worst in Texas behind I-610 and I-35. I-45 is absolutely heavy from Galveston to Huntsville and that is 120 miles! I-35 is heavy for 300 miles from San Antonio to DFW.

As for US 290, we can safely say it’s off the list due to construction almost over. Let’s celebrate! That road is beautiful and smooth.
