I know that area, with all of the truck stops and gas stations. Every year we visit family in Baton Rouge, LA. We go from Temple through Bryan/College Station. Sometimes we take a detour around Houston to avoid the crazy traffic. Once we got to Navasota we headed east on hwy 105 to Beaumont and then back on 10 and we're good until we reached BR which has its own traffic issues. True our "detour" was long but we did enjoy the scenery.

Does 130 help any as an alternative to I-35?

The 300 or so mile stretch of I-35 from the Southern part of the San Antomio metro to the far Northern part of the DFW Metroplex has to be one of the busiest, most congested stretches of interstate in the entire country. Close to 14 million people, nearly half the population of Texas lives in the metros that I-35 goes thru. I never seen a more constantly busy interstate anywhere I ever been.

Austin I-35 and Dallas I-635. They are the worst. Houston has the best and well-rounded freeway system in the state.

The Central Expressway (Hwy 75) which runs from Dallas to Collin County is real bad. I saw heavy traffic stopped due to accidents almost every single day when I drove on that freeway.

The HOV Lane on U.S. 75 is very dangerous. It’s very tight and boxed in and in the evening you have headlights from oncoming traffic glaring in your eyes because the barrier isn’t tall enough.

I agree concerning Houston's freeway network. San Antonio does too.

The last time I went through Dallas, it was after 11 pm and traffic was stalled on 635. This was late May.

1/2 the highways in Houston are toll
San Antonio doesn’t have toll roads
