I thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to our favorite Texas musicians. I did a search and didn't find a similar thread, but if it does exist, then please merge this one with it, mods.

All genres of music are welcome: Country, gospel, blues, rap, rock, R&B, pop, Tejano, jazz, zydeco, etc.

Give me Bob Wills, Willie, Waylon, Jimmy Dean, George Strait, Kenny Rogers, Tanya Tucker, Buck Owens, Johnny Gimble, Johnny Bush......all native Texans, with some of the best music ever.

Buck Owens was born in Sherman, but spent most of his life in California...and was one of the pioneers of the "Bakersfield Sound" along with Merle Haggard.

Austin-based Asleep at the Wheel originated in VA, but play definite Texas music, Western Swing.

Roy Orbinson and Buddy Holly for sure.

Cathy, good post and great choices. LOL Buck Owens, boy, does that bring back memories. I remember watching his show on Saturday night and loved singing along with him on I Got a Tiger by the Tail'. Now I've got it stuck in my head.

I was thinking Janis Joplin was from Texas, but wanted to check and make sure. She was born in Port Arthur. I always loved listening to Janis, one of the greats in my book.

I also forgot about George Jones, another favorite of mine, was born in Saratoga.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was on PBS the other night.

Boy, those do bring back some memories, don't they? JJ is from Texas, but I have never been able to listen to her much. She could get a little too "screamy" (for lack of a better word) for me. George Jones, always a favorite with "The Race is On."

Great thread! I started a similar thread but it was only for Lubbock area musicians and I immediately realized my thread left out a LOT of past and current talent from Texas.

Texas has produced, and continues to produce, all types of great music. Off the top of my head I suppose my favorite Texas tune has to be the twin fiddles of Bob Wills in:
