Hi everyone,

I am British and am looking to move to Texas (Dallas, Houston or Austin preferably) but am having trouble with the job hunt. I am currently living in China which doesn't help matters!

I studied French and Spanish at university and I'm not looking for anything specific, I just would rather not work in sales. I'm also worried that the fact that I will need sponsorship for a visa will hinder my search!

Can anyone give me any advice or information on the best way to conduct my search? Any dos and don'ts?

Thanks in advance!

Sarah

You need to ask in the immigration forum. Perhaps they can give you some better ideas.

Here's the problem: in order to come to the USA, you need a company to hire you and sponsor you for a visa. First, that visa costs the company about $15k in government fees and attorney fees. Second, the company has to prove that no American citizen is able/willing to do the work you do in order to give you the visa. So, unless you are some sort of scientist, super computer programmer, etc., that's very difficult for the company to prove. Third, the US unemployment rate is quite high right now. Many Americans are out of work, and many American companies are not even hiring right now. Of the few that are hiring, most prefer to find an American citizen who can at least do some of the work because they can start immediately and don't require an expensive, time-consuming visa.

Work in Texas dot com < no spaces, the 'dot' is a '.'

Choose Search all Jobs, and include key words such as 'Dallas', and 'Sales' in your search. Choose Search all Words.

And yes, you will need a visa for work which will include a company sponsor. Or marry a citizen. Or typically what ChristieP says above.

Here's an interesting thread on C-D, //www.city-data.com/forum/texas...nch-texas.html. It's an older thread but has recent entries. There may be some good ideas in there for you.

Good luck, travel safe
