I remember moving to Texas in 1997 from Arizona. I turned in my AZ DL to Texas. I was given a temp DL and was informed that my permanent license would arrive in the mail in about 10 business days. I got the TX DL in 10 days.

A few years later I moved back to AZ and turned in my TX DL at the AZ DMV. It took approx. 30 minutes to get my AZ DL.

Does it still take 10 business days in Texas to get a driver's license if one has a license from another state?

Thanks.

Yes, I would say 10 days to 2 weeks. We've moved around a lot (military family) and have always received my new state's license at the DMV instead of waiting for it in the mail.

It took me a couple weeks, which I think is really annoying. Back in VA they printed it at the DMV while you wait. Here when you move here you are forced to surrender your out of state license, and sit and wait for a new one... meanwhile some of us have to show state issued IDs for other purposes, not everyone has a passport....

Whats the purpose of having it mailed and having to wait, I do not understand..Secondly, TX prints your temp. license on plain white paper..Why? Who does that? lol

Reminds me when I did my Texas CHL. I was actually staying out in Arizona for several months and their CHL was accepted in Texas. At that time, Texas was 6-8 was behind on CHLs while AZ was 3-5 days. So I signed up for a CHL class in AZ....ended up missing it and taking a road trip up to Sedona instead.

Yeah, the 10-14 days for a driver's license is nothing compared to the wait for a CHL right now. That is more like 45 days.
