I have lived in Texas all of my life-some areas of Texas are poor, but it's really that way any place you travel. About the guns: I certainly don't have a gun (yet-I'm going into the military), and I promise we aren't a run-down uncultured bunch of rednecks. We drive nice cars, live in houses, and have running water and electricity. The only complaint I would have is that it is very hot. You will love it here!

An English man going to Texas to see Amarillo would be like an American going to England to visit Stoke. There's just no good reason to do it. The surrounding area is an ocean of nothingness as far as you can see. There's a joke up there that you can see your dog run away for 3 days. That's how flat it is.

Texas is 5 times the size of England. There are at least 5 major different geographical regions. East Texas has more in common with the deep South, it's full of thick woods and rednecks. South Texas is like little Mexico, if you are Anglo you will be the minority. Central Texas is the hill country, its full of German and Czech ancestry who like to hunt and bbq. West Texas is flat and very few people who either grow cotton or work in the oil fields. The panhandle is full of absolute nothing. Also if you want to experience Texas, stay out of the big cities like Dallas, Houston, and Austin. Austin is the antithesis of everything else in the state. San Antonio would be a good major city if you want to visit one. A lot of interesting places and history there

OP, don't pay any attention to this.

Except for the part about San Antonio being cool.
