Yep. It has changed hands back and forth over the years from its original San Antonio location.

Having said that, I'm more likely to drink whatever is on hand, but the male cousins still drink Lone Star to this day, regardless of where it's made, LOL!

I've tried to learn to like Shiner Bock, but haven't made it yet. You won't find microbrews in most of these small West Texas backwaters!

I have tried Shiner Bock and Lone Star but I would much rather have a budweiser, coors light, bud light,or miller lite or MGD over those two.

Default Forgot to say.....

If you end up going down to San Antonio and it's not a blazing hot day-get a map and they have bike trails all along the upper Riverwalk area-you can actually bike to the Missions -just take water-there are places to fill up your drinking canister along the route-the park rangers will give you any advice you want to help you along the way-we just did this last weekend-great time-no tourist bus for us. I will again recommend going underground to the caves around TX-really worth it too. BTW all the stereotypes you speak of were what people in the North East of the USA told me about TX-I was told such "culture shock" I guess they meant everyone is friendly and speaks to you LOL!

I like all of those, but would rather not have Coors Light. The newer 55 (Bud) is one of my favorites, though, especially with a plate of nachos.

All of us got used to Lone Star--it's what we stole out of the fridge in HS. All of our dads drank nothing else from the time they were teenagers (yep, all Lone Star alcoholics, sadly enough).

I wonder if the OP will tell us how he likes our (US) beer....? LOL!

The beer is probably too cold for him! LOL When we lived in the UK people looked at me cross-eyed when I asked for ice in my drinks-they do like their warm beer!

Pass the Shiner, please.

(Though I admit I like Modelo, too...and Heineken! Actually - I like beer.)

LOL I do have my concealed handgun license and I grew up with guns, but you will not see people out in public carrying them. Crime happens, yes, but it isn't like everywhere you go you will see a crime being committed. It is no different than in Europe. When I was in Rome/Paris/Prague/Berlin, I stayed out of the seedy areas; just do the same here, and you'll be fine.

As far as cities to visit, you'll probably be disappointed in Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and Lubbock. While nice enough to live, they aren't really the most interesting places to visit. I would suggest you see Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, South Padre Island or Rockport/Port Aransas (if you like the beach), and the Big Bend area of West Texas if you like hiking and "back county" experiences. Eat a lot of Mexican food and seafood and just have fun!!!
Totally agree with this post. As for guns, the only ones I've ever seen (and I am a 41 year old Texas woman) have been those owned by my own family.

As for your accent, watch out because I have seen girls/women go absolutely bonkers for an accent. You might have to fight off the unwanted attention. In fact, my older son and his friend, when they were teens, used to use fake British accents all the time to get female attention and it worked! And they were fake!

I agree with the cities mentioned above, as well as the hill country which has also been mentioned. Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, San Marcos, etc. Gorgeous and my favorite parts of central Texas.

I agree, people outside of Texas have some crazy ideas about us. I spent summers on the US East coast (NE) when I was a child and had questions all the time about whether or not I had a gun (I was 10, 11, 12!) or if I rode a horse to school.

As for the religion thing, I have never been bothered at all, and I am definitely non-religious. The only bother is solicitations happening door to door but that happens all over the US. Now, I have experienced a bit of judgment from fanatical religious folk in a more subtle way but that was years ago and only in VERY SMALL/semi rural Texas towns.
